About volunteering
Volunteers are important and valued members of the Museum of Power team, they help us support visitors, care for our collection and work behind the scenes.
Volunteering at the Museum is a great way to meet like minded people, improve your wellbeing and have unique experiences in a friendly environment. Whatever your previous experience, we can support you to learn new skills and help us provide our visitors with a brilliant day out!
You can choose from a wide variety of roles to suit your interests, talents and availability, from one off projects or events to our regular teams. Volunteer roles include:
- Welcoming visitors and families to the Museum
- Supporting school pupils to learn about science and technology
- Helping deliver our exciting and varied events programme
- Maintaining our collection of steam engines and working machinery
- Looking after our extensive grounds and gardens

Current opportunities
Garden volunteer
Gardening can be a great way to stay active and enhance your wellbeing in nature. We’re looking for volunteer gardeners to help us care for the Museum gardens and grounds.
Learning volunteer
We’re looking for friendly, outgoing volunteers to support the delivery of school visits to the Museum.
Learning support volunteer
We’re looking for friendly, outgoing volunteers to welcome schools when they visit the Museum.
Visitor experience volunteer
We’re looking for friendly volunteers to join our team, supporting visitors to have a brilliant experience.
Event Research and Coordination Volunteer

We’re looking for volunteers with great organisation and research skills to help us develop our programme of exciting events.
Learning Coordinator Volunteer

We’re looking for a volunteer with great organisational and communication skills to help us coordinate school visits to the Museum.

We’re looking for friendly volunteers to join our team, welcoming visitors and managing the Museum shop.

Events Volunteer: Engineering enthusiasts
See our historic machines at work and support one of our regular Power Up! events. 2 March, 6 April, 4 May and/or 2 November.
Events Volunteer: Family events
Have fun with families at one of our weekend or school holiday events. Various dates.
Events Volunteer: Vintage and antiques enthusiasts
Get to know other vintage and antique enthusiasts and help out at our regular market. 27 April, 17 August and/or 12 October.
Events Volunteer: Car and Bike enthusiasts
See behind the scenes by helping out at one of our car, bike or transport related shows. Various dates including American Car Show, Bike and Record Meet and The Essex Bus and Coach Show.
Events Volunteer: Murder at the Museum
Lend a hand at this gripping murder mystery and dinner event on 12 April.
