Opportunities to excite, learn new skills and stay connected
Volunteers are important and valued members of the Museum of Power team, they help us support visitors, care for our collection and work behind the scenes.
Volunteering at the Museum is a great way to meet like minded people, improve your wellbeing and have unique experiences in a friendly environment. Whatever your previous experience, we can support you to learn new skills and help us provide our visitors with a brilliant day out!
You can choose from a wide variety of roles to suit your interests, talents and availability, from one off projects or events to our regular teams. Volunteer roles include:
- Welcoming visitors and families to the Museum
- Supporting school pupils to learn about science and technology
- Helping deliver our exciting and varied events programme
- Maintaining our collection of steam engines and working machinery
- Looking after our extensive grounds and gardens

Garden volunteer
Gardening can be a great way to stay active and enhance your wellbeing in nature. We’re looking for volunteer gardeners to help us care for the Museum gardens and grounds.
Learning volunteer
We’re looking for friendly, outgoing volunteers to support the delivery of school visits to the Museum.
Learning support volunteer
We’re looking for friendly, outgoing volunteers to welcome schools when they visit the Museum.
Visitor experience volunteer
We’re looking for friendly volunteers to join our team, supporting visitors to have a brilliant experience at the Museum.

Micro volunteering opportunities
If you have a short amount of time to spare,
micro volunteering is flexible around your availability
Events Volunteer: Christmas Fair
We’re looking for volunteers who love Christmas to take part in our Christmas Fair and Santa’s Grotto, you might craft festive decorations or support families to have a jolly good time at the event.
Volunteer for 4 hours to 3 days during November or at the event (30 Nov and 1 Dec)
