Learning Coordinator Volunteer

We’re looking for a volunteer with great organisational and communication skills to help us coordinate school visits to the Museum.

The Museum of Power cares for a collection of industrial heritage and makes it accessible to the public. Every year we welcome over 40 groups of school children and college students to the Museum for a hands-on learning experience. This is a great opportunity for people who want to volunteer behind the scenes, remotely from home and/or who need a role that is flexible around their availability. We’re looking for volunteers who enjoy working on a computer and who want to help schools and colleges organise their group visit to the Museum.

What’s involved?

In this role you will:

  • Support teachers and school staff to book their group visit to the Museum
  • Organise school group visits using established procedures e.g. room booking, risk assessment, invoice schools, pre and post visit information
  • Book volunteers and freelance educators to deliver the schools’ sessions
  • Maintain the school visits diary and coordinate monthly learning team meetings
  • Promote group visits to local schools and colleges through the website, direct email and promotional activities
  • Work with the Assistant Museum Manager to formalise the procedures for school group bookings

Why get involved?

  • This role is flexible and could be based in the Museum office or remotely from home
  • Receive a full induction and training relevant to the role, including communicating with schools, health and safety and safeguarding
  • Gain skills and experience working with schools and teachers
  • See behind the scenes at the Museum and gain office or museum experience
  • Be part of a team and meet people with similar interests
  • Participate in monthly team meetings
  • Access to other volunteering projects and opportunities at the Museum

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Friendly and able to communicate effectively by email and telephone
  • Organised with good computer skills
  • Enthusiastic about the Museum and willing to learn about its schools’ offer
  • Works well as part of a team and is able to provide two references
  • Interested in working with a range of age groups, backgrounds and demographics

What is the time commitment?

We are looking for volunteers who are available approximately one day a week Monday to Friday during term time. This role is flexible and could be done over several days around your availability.

You may choose to volunteer remotely from home after initial training. If you prefer to volunteer in the Museum office, available days are Wednesday, Thursday or Friday.

The learning team meet once a month on a Tuesday, it is hoped that you would be able to join these meetings when possible.

You will have a named contact from the Museum team to support you, this is James Gulleford, the Assistant Museum Manager who leads on the learning programmes.
