Learning Volunteer

We’re looking for friendly, outgoing volunteers to support the delivery of school visits to the Museum.
The Museum of Power cares for a collection of industrial heritage and makes it accessible to the public. We’re looking for volunteers who enjoy working with children and are enthusiastic about learning to help primary school children have an enjoyable and memorable visit to the Museum. You do not need specialist knowledge or experience of working with schools or teaching, training will be provided.
What’s involved?
In this role you will:
- Support school children aged 5-11 to learn about STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths)
- Learn how to deliver school sessions by shadowing and working with an experienced buddy
- There are also opportunities to help us develop new learning sessions and/or activities for families during the school holidays.

We are looking for someone who is:
- Friendly and approachable
- Enthusiastic about the Museum and its collections
- Works well with children and young people and able to provide two references
- Interested in working with a range of age groups, backgrounds and demographics
- Willing to learn about the subject areas covered by the school sessions
What is the time commitment?
We are looking for volunteers who are available on Wednedsays, Thursdays or Fridays during term time, from 9.30am – 2.30pm.
Ideally you will be available either once a week or once a fortnight.
You will have a named contact from the Museum team to support you, this is James Gulleford, the Assistant Museum Manager who leads on the learning programmes.
