Events Volunteer: Christmas Fair
We’re looking for volunteers who love Christmas to take part in our Christmas Fair and Santa’s Grotto, you might craft festive decorations or support families to have a jolly good time at the event.
The Museum of Power reopened to the public in 2024 after a £1.9 million redevelopment. The Museum runs a busy events programme to animate its building and grounds, provide fun experiences for new visitors and generate important funds for the Museum charity.
This is a great opportunity for someone who only has a short amount of time but wants to do something fun and make other people smile. Maybe you are creative and would like to join one of our Christmas Crafting sessions, making the decorations and fun activities for the children, or perhaps you have a few hours to help on the day supporting families and stallholders (or Santa!) to have a great day out. What’s involved?
In this role you will:
- Use your crafting skills to decorate the Museum for Christmas and make festive themed activities for children
AND/OR - Help to set up the event, setting up stands and activities and creating a winter wonderland at the Museum
AND/OR - Be a steward at the event, welcoming visitors, processing tickets, answering questions, collecting feedback, assisting with health and safety and ensuring the event spaces stay clean and tidy
- Welcome family and adult visitors, treating everyone with dignity and respect
- You will also have the opportunity to support the Events Manager to coordinate the event, liaising with performers and stallholders, assisting with Audio and Visual equipment and organising volunteers

We are looking for someone who is:
- Enthusiastic about the Museum and Christmas (no grinches please!)
- Enjoys crafts and making things (for Christmas Crafting sessions)
- Friendly, approachable and confident talking to people of all ages and backgrounds (for stewarding)
- In good physical health (stewarding involves sustained standing and some lifting)
- Reliable and able to provide one reference
What is the time commitment?
Join a Christmas Crafting session during November
Help put up decorations and set up the event on Friday 29 November
Support the events team on the day on Saturday 30 November and/or Sunday 1 December (volunteer sessions are a minimum of 4 hours, 8:30am – 12:30pm, 11:00am – 3:00pm or 2:00pm – 6:00pm)
You will have a named contact from the Museum team to support you, this is Lyz Le Fay, the Events Manager.
