Power Trail 5
Renewable Energy Introduction
This Power Trail looks at one of the most important issues facing pupils as they grow up – how we can create the power we need to run our lives, but not at its current cost to the planet. It encourages discussion and debate and could be used as part of a wider Citizenship, Geography or Science topic.

You might like to give your pupils the freedom to explore energy use and consumption. Which things they do uses most energy? Which uses less? Which causes most pollution? Which causes least?

Perhaps they might imagine a world with no energy sources – how might they live?

They might ‘invent’ a fantasy energy source – preferably renewable – that would ‘solve’ the problems of the world and its energy supplies.

Or they might try to design an energy-neutral house? transport system? or whatever [one that generates as much energy as it uses].
