Homes Introduction
This Power Trail explores the use of power in our homes; the museum has a fascinating collection of domestic items such as vacuum cleaners, irons, lamps and radios. These can all be used to trigger investigation and discussion amongst your group.

Why not build up your own collection of old consumer goods?

I got an old 1960s television from my local tip – it was just sitting there when I took a pile of garden rubbish and explaining what I wanted it for meant I got it for nothing! Local car boots, charity shops and junk shops are also fertile hunting ground – just beware the person who thinks you are a collector and after top quality goods. Make sure you explain properly what you want!

A colleague put an old crackly tape recorder inside a defunct valve wireless – you should have seen the pupils’ faces when he turned on this old wireless and it worked!
